Here's a game that is made in S&box. It's pretty impressive because it doesn't look like the base game or anything source at all. I recommend watching at 1.5x since it's fairly slow paced



They showcased it in this month's hack week which had some other interesting stuff such as their plans to replace SFM

4 months since the last blog, here are some decent updates:
  • They are actively working to not break any games (gamemodes) when making updates to S&box, which means they are nearing public release
  • They now have featured games on the home page, and player count is updated every 5 seconds
  • They are implementing a benchmark system to identify and improve performance issues
  • This is the big one: anyone will be able to get access to the game soon, you will just need to log into https://sbox.game and give yourself an invite code
I tested the invite system and it doesn't seem to be working yet. I'll keep checking and report back when it does work

  • Of course the big news is that it's openly available. Apparently 50,000 people joined the day it opened up. This exposed some problems like host role being migrated to a joining player which permanently broke that specific game. They were pretty quick to fix this.

  • S&box is also going to have the ability to export a game you create in it as a standalone game, which can be launched completely independently of S&box, which you can sell on Steam or whatever.

  • Work on dedicated servers continues.

  • They are replacing the default, ugly Terry model!!!!

  • Improvements to physics, lighting, particles, and VR.

  • New games added, like a realistic looking FPS.

  • They have created a dashboard to make it easy to find errors that players get, so that devs can fix them. Also Garry is threatening to disconnect players immediately if they get an error which is pretty wild and seems to be getting backlash

  • Work is progressing on the new human model instead of the ugly sausage model

  • They are adding support for voxel systems including destruction

  • Garry created SFM in S&box

  • As mentioned last update, you can now export games as standalone, except not fully because it hasn't gotten Valve's approval yet

  • Another game jam happened so a lot of new games have been made

Garry is working on an official Sandbox mode (the current one is pretty barebones)

The physics engine runs a lot better with many items interacting with each other

There is finally an official toolgun

  • There is a new game discovery page which you can also view online: https://sbox.game/games
  • Props can be set on fire and explode like in Gmod

  • Duplicator now works properly with objects connected by physics joints
  • Crash free (player) sessions have improved from 96.9% to 98.5%
  • The following graphics settings have been added to the menu:
    • Texture Detail
    • Volumetric Fog
    • Post Processing
    • Motion Blur Strength
  • Rendering improvements:
    • Screen-Space Reflections are about 4-8x faster
    • Bloom is about 14x faster
  • The physgun's ability to move objects and have them interact with the world is now on par or better than Gmod
  • Many other things
